Defector entrepreneur Lee Soon-sil revealed the reason why North Korean defectors are proficient in Chinese.

On the afternoon of the 12th, the KBS2 entertainment program ‘The Boss's Ears Are Donkey Ears’ (hereafter ‘Sadangui’) featured Lee Soon-sil's group visiting a food fair in Busan.

During the broadcast, Lee Soon-sil's group encountered Chinese customers while selling new menu dumplings. When the Chinese customers spoke in Chinese, defector Kim So-yeon showcased her fluent Chinese by saying, “Oh, give me half meat dumplings and half kimchi dumplings.”

In response, Soon-sil explained to the panel, “The reason North Korean defectors speak Chinese well is that when they defect to China, they have to survive. If you pay for lessons, you learn this much, but if you learn to survive, you learn a tremendous amount.”

‘Sadangui’ can be seen every Sunday at 4:45 PM on KBS2.
