Hwang Garam from 'Immortal Songs' confesses about his extreme hardships in life.
The KBS2 program 'Immortal Songs' (directed by Park Hyung-geun and Kim Hyung-seok) airing on the 18th features the second part of the '2025 New Year Special: Celebrity Special Kim Hae-sook' with Jeong Young-joo, Lim Han-byeol, Hwang Garam, La Poem, and Jeong Ji-so taking the stage to dedicate performances to the 'Nation's Mom' Kim Hae-sook.
Making his first appearance on 'Immortal Songs', Hwang Garam recalls the extreme hardships he faced after leaving his hometown of Masan to pursue his dream of becoming a singer in Seoul. He starts by saying, "I lived as a homeless person for a long time," and adds, "It all began when I started spending nights in the playground in Hongdae, and eventually, I ended up sleeping on benches, which led to my homelessness."
Hwang Garam, who claims he has tried every part-time job, mentions that he had no choice but to rent a storage unit instead of a house with the few million won he had saved. He shares, "I lived by collecting trash, and without a bathroom, I couldn't wash myself, which led to me getting scabies and having to shave all my hair off," expressing that "it was not a place where a person could live properly," and he even lost weight down to 48kg, which evokes sympathy.
Hwang Garam, who broke out of obscurity with "I Am Firefly," expresses gratitude, saying, "Good things have happened, and many people are listening to my voice, so thankfully, I am reducing my delivery part-time job." He adds, "It feels surreal and amazing to be on the stage of 'Immortal Songs' that aired when I debuted in 2011," as he joins his hands in gratitude.
This special is the first part of the New Year project planned for the year 2025, focusing on the acting life of the undisputed 'Nation's Mom' Kim Hae-sook, with her life songs and favorite songs being reinterpreted.
On the stage of the second part, 'Next Generation Nation's Mom' Jeong Young-joo will sing Lim Hee-sook's "My One and Only Person," while 'High Note Ballader' Lim Han-byeol will perform Toy's "Is It Still Beautiful?" 'Firefly Man' Hwang Garam will present Yang Hee-eun's "About the Loneliness of Love," and the 'Crossover Avengers' La Poem will showcase Suh Wa-jin's "Pachira." Jeong Ji-so, who is collaborating with Kim Hae-sook in 'The Suspect,' will reinterpret Han Myung-sook's "The Man in the Yellow Shirt."
'Immortal Songs' will air on the 18th at 6:05 PM.
