Lee Soon-sil's team discussed the salaries of North Korean professionals.
On the afternoon of the 26th, KBS2's entertainment program 'The Boss's Ears Are Donkey Ears' (hereafter 'Sadangui') featured Jung Ji-sun, Lee Soon-sil, and announcer Um Ji-in.
In this episode, Jung Ji-sun's team and Kim Sook, who arrived in Taiwan for an event, decided to enjoy a food tour four hours before their flight arrival. Jung Ji-sun declared, "The breakfast culture here is very developed, known as Zaochan Dian."
After ordering 20 dishes, they began their breakfast, and Kim Sook exclaimed, "Mmm, it's delicious," enjoying the meal. Kim Sook suggested, "You said you slept for an hour. Isn't it better to sleep than to eat breakfast?" but the four of them finished all the dishes, bringing laughter.
Jung Ji-sun led the tour, saying, "We have to go to Taipei 101," and added, "We're going to the highest and most famous buffet in Taiwan. We received a VIP invitation. We ate on the first floor earlier, and now we're eating in the sky," hinting at another food segment.
Arriving on the 86th floor with the escort of dedicated staff, they met the head chef of the buffet and the four of them took a tour around the buffet with over 300 dishes. Kim Sook said, "I want to eat the grilled eel. In Korea, it costs 100,000 won. Does it look too extravagant?" as she filled her plate, while Ji-sun, true to her title as the queen of dim sum, headed towards the dim sum section. She said, "If it's a buffet, we have to be quick. I'm curious how fast we can go, 8 seconds! 9 seconds!" surprising the panel with her research on dim sum even at the buffet.
Jung Ji-sun asked, "Have you seen 'The Black and White Chef'?" showcasing her popularity. As Kim Sook started eating the grilled eel, she remarked, "There's an incredible amount of it here." She enjoyed it, saying, "It's expensive because of the ingredients, right?"
During the meal, the vice president visited to see Jung Ji-sun, who said, "Everything is great! They say this is the highest and most expensive place in Taiwan! How many guests come here in a day?" showcasing her fluent Chinese. The vice president welcomed the four, saying, "We specially invited Chef Jung, a master of Hong Kong dim sum, to experience the flavors of Taiwan."
Later, Jung Ji-sun surprised the panel again by making dim sum herself during a news media interview.
The second boss featured Lee Soon-sil, Na Min-hee, and Seo Hyun-kyung. Lee Soon-sil expressed, "I feel a bit sentimental during the Lunar New Year. I specially prepared for my beloved younger siblings to soothe their homesickness," visiting the home of defector Kim Seo-ah.
Kim Seo-ah shared, "I was dispatched to work at a Cambodian restaurant and fell from a three-story roof. I thought I would just break a leg and fell. I served and performed on stage. I was preparing for college, but I couldn't afford to go. So I was introduced to a Cambodian restaurant, but I had to audition. Over a thousand people came, and they were all so beautiful. But I passed the audition with a 100 to 1 competition rate. You have to be over 165 cm tall and can't have plastic surgery. Even if 10 out of 1,000 pass the first round, we still have to practice. During the physical examination, they even check for hemorrhoids and make you spread your buttocks in front of a doctor... My husband is Korean," she recounted her defection process.
She continued, "After falling from the roof, my husband picked me up in a car and we crossed from Cambodia to another country," revealing her love story with her husband.
Wearing sanitary hats and aprons, they decided to make North Korean-style Lunar New Year food. They prepared enough food to bend the table and shared it, expressing, "I was envious of South Koreans meeting their families during the holidays, but this is so nice," creating a warm atmosphere.
Na Min-hee said, "I'm happy I don't have to find a calendar for the Lunar New Year. The representative bribe for the holiday is the calendar. It would be great if it had Kim Jong-il's face," revealing North Korean holiday gifts. Lee Soon-sil added, "The really good calendars are the ones with North Korean movie stars' faces. Those are even more expensive."
Na Min-hee mentioned, "My mom is a middle school teacher, and her salary is 4,000 won? It would be about 700 won in Korean money," and Kim Seo-ah said, "What shocked me was that when customers asked about my father's job, I had to say professor, soldier, or doctor. I couldn't understand it because we couldn't live in North Korea, but in Korea, the most popular job is a doctor," surprising the panel. Hearing this, Lee Soon-sil agreed, saying, "Doctors' salaries are 5,000 won (900 won in Korean money)."
Na Min-hee added, "Even getting a consultation requires a bribe, so I always brought cigarettes, you know? When you open the drawer, there are tons of cigarettes. I had a physical examination by a soldier, and they pulled out a glass and laid it out, and I guess they weren't confident. They asked me what my parents' blood types were. When I said A, they said, 'Then you're A type,'" adding shocking remarks.
After finishing their meal, the four shared the food they made with the apartment residents, creating a festive atmosphere.
The third boss featured announcer Um Ji-in. He said, "The volleyball caster is only Lee Jae-hoo. So we're looking to hire one more," announcing the KBS volleyball caster audition.
Han Yu-mi stated, "The chemistry with me is the most important, and the caster needs to ask good questions to get good answers," participating in the judging, with announcer Nam Hyun-jong being the first to go.
Nam Hyun-jong saw the ball caught in the net and made a major blunder by saying, "Blocking score!" and then kept his mouth tightly shut, causing a series of accidents. Lee Jae-hoo criticized, "The opening wasn't fun. The opening is supposed to catch the viewers' attention. It wasn't fresh or entertaining. It was at the level of a middle and high school broadcasting club," giving harsh feedback. He added, "Why do you keep trying to talk during slow-motion scenes? Slow motion shows the decisive moments, and the caster isn't a volleyball expert. It's the commentator's time," he added.
Han Yu-mi agreed, saying, "If the commentator says what the caster should say, I think, 'Why did you call me?'"
Next, announcer Kim Jin-woong appeared. Unlike usual, he was silent and kept nodding his head, only saying, "Time delay!" repeatedly. He then continued with confusing commentary, saying, "He went out! No, he came in!" causing Lee Jae-hoo and Um Ji-in to frown.
Han Yu-mi commented, "Bringing my personal story into the winning team could be problematic," while Um Ji-in said, "I was anxious at the beginning. Kim Jin-woong's voice was too loud, drowning out Han Yu-mi's voice." Lee Jae-hoo remarked, "Just raising the volume doesn't make it dynamic; there's a lack of basic descriptive ability. You kept mentioning time-delay attacks, but why are you using it so much?" expressing his disbelief.
He also questioned, "Why didn't you write down Han Mi-re's name? How many serves did he make? I see it as a matter of enthusiasm. There could be other important situations where you can't mention names. But this is an audition. You can't do this while getting paid. I'm very disappointed in both Hyun-jong and Jin-woong! I mean, why do you keep making me someone who talks like this?" expressing his anger and creating a tense atmosphere in the audition room.
The third batter was announcer Hong Joo-yeon. Jeon Hyun-moo said, "For a first-timer, you did well. Your chemistry with Han Yu-mi was the best, but the downside was the lack of urgency. If you had just added a bit of urgency, you would have done great!" smiling brightly. Um Ji-in commented, "There were many parts where the voice wasn't heard, and you completely messed that up," while Lee Jae-hoo said, "I thought the speed was good. But even in a deuce situation, you need to create tension, and that was missing."
However, due to their insufficient skills, all three announcers were unable to proceed with the upcoming volleyball commentary.
‘Sadangui’ can be seen every Sunday at 4:45 PM on KBS2.
