Seo Kang-joon displayed an unstoppable momentum in his pursuit of urban legends.
In the second episode of MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Undercover High School' (written by Lim Young-bin, directed by Choi Jeong-in), Jung Hae-sung (played by Seo Kang-joon) began to uncover the truth behind the urban legends circulating in the school with his friend Lee Dong-min (played by Shin Jun-hang).
On this day, the viewership rating recorded 6.6% nationwide and 6.5% in the metropolitan area according to Nielsen Korea. In particular, the epilogue scene showing Seo Myung-joo watching Hae-sung on CCTV as he examines the basement of the old school building soared to 8.8%, reaching a peak of tension. Additionally, the key indicator of channel competitiveness and buzz, the 2049 viewership rating, maintained the top spot among all dramas aired that day with 2.8%, drawing significant interest from drama fans.
In yesterday's broadcast, while exploring the first floor of the old school building, Hae-sung encountered Su-a, who was on patrol, putting him at risk of being discovered. Hae-sung shone his flashlight at Su-a and managed to escape the situation. He then sensed something suspicious when he saw Principal Park Jae-moon (played by Park Jin-woo) heading down to the basement, further intensifying the mystery.
Meanwhile, Hae-sung heard about the circulating urban legend from Dong-min. It was said that a female student who was bullied by her peers long ago took her own life in the old classroom, and that the spirit of the deceased student appears in a closed practice room at the same time every day. Dong-min shocked Hae-sung, who didn't believe in the legend, by showing him a video he had filmed.
Just as they were about to hear about the next urban legend, Park Tae-soo (played by Jang Seong-beom) and his group appeared in front of Hae-sung and Dong-min. Tae-soo spat in Dong-min's food and ordered him to eat it. When Hae-sung tried to stop him, the tension in the air escalated. Tae-soo, enraged by Hae-sung's interference, grabbed him by the collar, leading to a serious situation that escalated into a big fight. Despite the team's instructions to stay out of any trouble and focus solely on their mission while at school, Hae-sung found himself uncomfortably entangled with the students, raising curiosity about what events will unfold in the future.
Meanwhile, in order to uncover the truth behind the urban legend, Hae-sung went to the old building and coincidentally met Dong-min, who joined him. As the two entered the building, they heard classical music coming from somewhere and followed the sound down to the basement. There, they found a mysterious man hammering away, who threw down his hammer and fled upon seeing them, raising questions. Moments later, inside the basement room, the walls were filled with newspaper clippings about the gold bars of the first chairman, Seo Byeong-moon (played by Kim Ui-sung), and Emperor Gojong, suggesting that Chairwoman Seo Myung-joo (played by Kim Shin-rok) was also searching for the gold bars.
At the end of the broadcast, as Dong-min was trying to exit the building, he discovered a skeleton wearing a female student uniform under the wooden floor, matching the content of the urban legend, causing his heart to race. With suspicious events continuing to unfold, viewers are left wondering how Hae-sung will untangle this complicated situation, raising anticipation for the next broadcast.
Thus, the second episode vividly depicted Hae-sung's intense pursuit of the whereabouts of the gold bars, while also providing a rich array of stories as he became entangled with the students, captivating viewers on Friday and Saturday nights.
'Undercover High School' airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM.
