Actress Seo Hyorim revealed that she had been refusing to appear on broadcasts after the death of her mother-in-law, Kim Sumi.
On the 23rd, during the MBN entertainment program 'The Taste We Know, Altoran' (hereafter 'Altoran'), she talked about her late mother-in-law, Kim Sumi, who passed away last year.
On that day, when asked, "How have you been doing?", Seo Hyorim replied, "I thought I would be sad every day, but while dealing with the things left behind and organizing my surroundings, I think I spent about two months without the time to be sad." She continued, "After sending my mother-in-law off, I received many offers to appear on broadcasts, but I didn't have the confidence to come out and talk about her. However, since this week's theme on 'Altoran' is 'the dish I wanted to make for my mother-in-law,' I decided to come without hesitation," revealing her heartfelt reason for appearing.
She naturally continued the conversation about the deceased with Lee Sang-min and Lee Yeon-bok, who had a deep connection with the late Kim Sumi, and greeted the merchants at the Namdaemun Market where they used to buy ingredients together, reminiscing and becoming emotional, which touched the hearts of viewers.
When Seo Hyorim began cooking, her hands moved without hesitation. While preparing the last dish Kim Sumi made, braised hairtail, she skillfully removed the fins and, instead of measuring carefully, casually poured in the soy sauce in her own way, showing her familiarity with the process. The MCs expressed their surprise, saying, "It feels like we are seeing Kim Sumi."
Moreover, when making shrimp soy sauce braise, the first dish she learned from her mother-in-law, she provided easy yet detailed one-point tips on how to handle each ingredient like shrimp, water parsley, and crown daisy, revealing her sincere dedication to perfecting the dish.
Furthermore, when tasting Lee Sang-min's grilled flatfish seasoned with Kim Sumi's trademark soy sauce crab seasoning, she expressed her joy by saying, "My family loves it," and when making radish greens with radish and dried radish leaves she grew herself, she shared her feelings, saying, "I couldn't make proper food for my mother-in-law when she was alive, but if she were here now, I would want to make this dish for her."
