Musical actress Cha Ji-yeon and Yoon Tae-on reflected on the time they faced a divorce crisis.
In the episode aired on the 24th, SBS ‘Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 - You Are My Destiny’ depicted the daily life of the couple Cha Ji-yeon and Yoon Tae-on.
On this day, the couple moved from Namyangju to Seoul after 10 years. The newly revealed house attracted attention with its unobstructed view and overwhelming natural light. Among the features, the soundproof music room stood out the most.
Yoon Tae-on said, “I strongly insisted on having the music room. It was almost gaslighting.” Cha Ji-yeon laughed, saying, “I think it could be a space for Yoon Tae-on to relieve stress when I become sensitive.”
After finishing the unpacking, Cha Ji-yeon invited her in-laws over. She showcased her cooking skills by making dishes like braised short ribs, Korean-style meat patties, and japchae.
Later, her in-laws arrived. Cha Ji-yeon expressed her happiness while introducing her new home. Her mother-in-law showed affection by bringing crab marinated in soy sauce, and her father-in-law gave her pocket money.
Cha Ji-yeon asked her in-laws, “What did you think when we started dating?” Her mother-in-law replied, “It was a burden.” Her father-in-law said, “When I first heard about it, I thought, ‘Who is she?’ but then I found out she was a famous actress. When I searched, I realized there was a huge difference between her and my son. I told him several times, ‘Can you handle this?’ and said, ‘If you’re going to marry her, be prepared to support her.’”
The father-in-law mentioned the couple's divorce crisis, saying, “At that time, I scolded my son, saying, ‘You are a sinner. I told you so.’” When Yoon Tae-on said, “I came to my senses around that time,” his mother-in-law interjected, “If you don’t come to your senses, you’re not a person. Even if you treat her well, it’s not enough; you shouldn’t make a woman cry.”
Yoon Tae-on shared, “When I talked to my parents about the divorce, my father said, ‘What have you done to even think about divorce? Cha Ji-yeon is taking care of the child and working; what have you done?’ I received harsh words.” Cha Ji-yeon added, “I think that was love for the son. It wasn’t that I did really well and they supported me, but because they loved their son, they wanted to protect the family. That love seems to have reached me. I can imagine how upset they must have been while scolding their beloved son. My in-laws are a huge fence, a shield, and my allies. They are not just my in-laws; they are like my parents.”
