‘Crossing the Line Class’ Indian-born broadcaster Lucky studies Korean history with his foreign friends.
The MBC entertainment program ‘Crossing the Line Class’, airing on the 5th at 9 PM, will feature a segment titled ‘Born to Travel Joseon’ with ‘foreigners who love Korea’. Seol Min-seok, Jeon Hyun-moo, and Yoo Byung-jae will be invited to a ‘lonely foreigners’ party’ to give tailored lectures.
The person who requested the lecture was none other than Indian-born broadcaster Lucky. Lucky, a close friend of Jeon Hyun-moo for 10 years, directly applied for the course with him. Introducing his friends from Rwanda, Turkey, Italy, and Egypt, Lucky expressed, “I have a lot of interest in Korean history. You can’t live in Korea without knowing its history,” igniting his determination to study Korean history to pass the notoriously difficult naturalization test.
Seol Min-seok begins the history lecture by introducing the existence of foreigners who unexpectedly landed in Joseon about 400 years ago, known as the ‘original foreigners of Korea’. The stories of the first Western naturalized citizen Park Yeon and Hamel, who drifted to Jeju and escaped after 13 years, unfold spectacularly. Lucky and his friends are astonished to hear about the hardships faced by their predecessors, including wars, epidemics, and famines, raising their curiosity about how they ended up staying in Joseon and the tumultuous experiences they went through.
Meanwhile, the points that surprised Joseon people when they saw Westerners with different appearances stimulate everyone's imagination. Jeon Hyun-moo reacts sharply to the record that “Westerners had eyes on their chests.” This raises curiosity about the reasons behind it and what rumors Joseon people spread about Westerners. The MBC ‘Crossing the Line Class’ featuring ‘Born to Travel Joseon’ will air on Wednesday, March 5th at 9 PM.
