The story of teacher Myung Jae-wan, who killed a student, is covered in 'I Want to Know That'.
On the 29th, SBS's current affairs program 'I Want to Know That' will track the reality of teacher Myung Jae-wan, who brutally murdered a first-grade elementary school student at school.
The Missing Child and Suspicious Breathing
Around 4:30 PM on February 10, a driver from an art academy arrived at a school in Daejeon and pressed the intercom at the entrance as usual. He was there to pick up first grader Kim Ha-neul, who was staying in the care classroom. However, Ha-neul did not come down that day. After 10 minutes, when he pressed the intercom again, the care classroom teacher replied that the child had already left the classroom. Ha-neul had disappeared.
“She usually comes down by herself, so it’s strange that she wouldn’t... right now, someone is breathing heavily in front of Ha-neul's phone?” - Voice message from Kim Ha-neul's parents on the day
Upon receiving the call, her parents rushed to the school and began searching inside and outside with the police. They had installed an app on their child's phone to listen to surrounding sounds in case of an emergency, but only suspicious breathing of an adult woman was heard, which made them more worried. After desperately hoping that nothing was wrong, the parents received shocking news shortly after. Ha-neul was found stabbed in the school's audiovisual room.
The Teacher Who Killed a Student She Had Never Met
A horrific tragedy occurred inside the school. The perpetrator, who stabbed the first grader Ha-neul multiple times with a weapon, was a middle-aged woman who had made suspicious breathing sounds near the child's phone. The woman, who had injured herself and was lying next to Ha-neul, was soon transported to the hospital, and the shock deepened when her identity was confirmed. The perpetrator was none other than the teacher of the school, Myung Jae-wan.
“I didn’t care which child it was. I stabbed the child who was going to die last.” - Police investigating the case
Just 10 minutes before the incident, Ha-neul was with her friends. Myung lured Ha-neul, who was the last to leave the first-grade care classroom, after hiding the weapon in the audiovisual room. How could such a horrific crime occur in a place that should be the safest, the school? Why did Myung brutally kill Ha-neul?
Who is Myung Jae-wan?
Students and parents who passed through 25-year veteran teacher Myung remembered her as a kind teacher. Why did she transform into a murderer? She took sick leave for depression treatment in the last semester and subsequently applied for a six-month medical leave. However, she suddenly applied for reinstatement after 21 days, which was accepted, and she committed the crime just a week after returning to work in February.
Was it really because of depression? What was the reason for Myung, who had taken leave due to illness, to hastily apply for reinstatement, and why was the reinstatement easily granted? Myung showed strange premonitory symptoms even before the crime. Was there really no point or method to prevent the murder? Will the concerns of parents who are afraid to send their children to school be alleviated?
The story of Myung Jae-wan will be covered in 'I Want to Know That', which will air on the 29th at 11:10 PM.
