Actress Park Han-byul recalled the difficult times following her husband's Burning Sun controversy.
On the broadcast of TV Chosun's ‘Dad and Me’ on the 1st, Park Han-byul appeared.
On this day, Park Han-byul said, "This is my first broadcast since the drama 'Love When Sad' in 2019. It feels like it's been 6 years."
Park Han-byul had to step back from broadcasting due to her husband's Burning Sun controversy.
She shared, "Whenever I turned on the TV, that story came up, whenever I opened my phone, that story came up, and whenever I met someone, that story came up. It was a time when I had to shut myself in my room to block it out. It felt unreal. I felt like there was nothing I could do, and I thought, 'Do I have to die for it to end?' I could hardly sleep, but I had to shoot. It was painful."
Park Han-byul talked about her husband's Burning Sun controversy over drinks with her father. Her father said, "At that time, I developed social anxiety. I didn't meet people. Everyone who met me was curious about that."
He expressed, "'How is your daughter doing?' They ask out of curiosity, but how painful is it for me? How much harder is it for our daughter? Just the moment they ask becomes more hurtful." He continued, "It drove me crazy. I lost my smile. I couldn't sleep. Even if I didn't sleep for days, I wasn't tired. I didn't want to eat, didn't get drunk, and had many extreme thoughts," shocking everyone.
Park Han-byul said, "My dad had a hard time because it coincided with his retirement. He developed depression and social anxiety, and every night after drinking, he would call to say to take a deep breath and sleep well before hanging up. You can feel something in the silence, right? Even without saying a word, you can feel it. I knew my dad was also going through a lot."
She recalled, "When that incident happened, I was filming a drama. I was shooting several commercials, but they all fell through, and I had to return all the model fees. All my schedules were canceled, and of course, I wasn't cast in anything. During that time, the doorbell kept ringing. When I opened it, there were strangers. Even when I was at home, I couldn't feel at ease."
She continued, "I received a call from my mother-in-law, who said, 'Get a divorce for your sake.' I hung up, saying, 'What nonsense are you talking about?' But at that time, many people told me to break up."
Park Han-byul said, "'Can you live without getting a divorce in such a situation?' It might be a light thought, but with a young child, would I make that choice? I made the best and right choice as a mother. It was important for the child to grow up emotionally stable and correctly. The child did nothing wrong, so I couldn't take that away. I believe that the child will definitely feel that I valued the family and made that choice as they grow up," she said, tearing up.
