The scene of Yook Sung-jae's binge eating and drinking in ‘Gwigung’ has captured attention.
Set to air on the 18th as a follow-up to ‘Treasure Island’, SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama ‘Gwigung’ (written by Yoon Soo-jung, directed by Yoon Sung-sik) tells the story of a shaman named Yeori who rejects her fate as a medium, and the dragon-like character Kang Cheol-yi, who is trapped in the body of Yeori's first love, Yoon Gap, as he confronts the vengeful spirit of the royal family, leading to a chaotic battle for body and soul in this fantasy romantic comedy.
Director Yoon Sung-sik, known for his reliable entertainment in dramas like ‘Mr. Queen’, ‘The Best Lee Soon-shin’, ‘Gaksital’, and ‘Dae Jo Yeong’, teams up with writer Yoon Soo-jung, who penned ‘The King's Face’ and ‘Boldly Go Go’. The fresh acting combination of Yook Sung-jae (playing Yoon Gap/Kang Cheol-yi), Kim Ji-yeon (playing Yeori), and Kim Ji-hoon (playing Lee Jeong) is generating high expectations.
Among them, a still image of ‘Kang Cheol-yi’ shoving food into his mouth to the point of his eyes rolling back has been released, raising curiosity about the context. Having lived in the spirit realm for a thousand years, Kang Cheol-yi is experiencing human taste for the first time after possessing a human body, and he is completely captivated by human food. He is seen holding a large chicken leg in one hand, eagerly chewing and savoring it. His pure (and somewhat naive) reaction, as if shocked by the diverse flavors and tastes after a millennium, is sure to provoke laughter.
In another still, Kang Cheol-yi is captured holding a bottle of alcohol in both hands, drinking heartily and getting pleasantly drunk. Having completely discarded the charisma of a malevolent spirit, he is seen smiling contentedly after finishing a feast, drawing attention. The character who once laughed at everything in the world is now disarmed and wearing a happy expression, raising anticipation for the unpredictable comedic moments in Kang Cheol-yi's tumultuous adaptation to the human world.
Meanwhile, Yook Sung-jae's portrayal of this unprecedented half-human, half-dragon character, born from the meeting of a thousand-year-old dragon and a human body, is remarkable. Just from the stills, the delightful and dynamic fun is palpable, heightening viewers' expectations. As curiosity grows about how Yook Sung-jae's dragon character will be portrayed in the actual broadcast, anticipation for the first episode of ‘Gwigung’, showcasing his peak acting skills, is soaring.
Meanwhile, ‘Gwigung’ will premiere on the 18th at 9:50 PM.
