Former actor and shaman Lee Geon-joo revealed the story behind his decision to give up meeting his mother.
On the 15th, TV Chosun’s ‘Dad and Me’ depicted Lee Geon-joo’s daily life.
On this day, Lee Geon-joo shared that he had the opportunity to meet his mother, whom he had never met in 44 years, 15 years ago. At that time, Lee Geon-joo's mother was waiting for him from a distance, but Lee Geon-joo said, “I think I need to think about it a little more,” and gave up the meeting.
Regarding that time, Lee Geon-joo said, “My mom asked, ‘Does he make a lot of money?’ Hearing that made me not want to meet her. I don’t know if that was just my misunderstanding or if the words were miscommunicated. If it were now, I would have asked about her intentions. But back then, I was too young, and it left a strong negative impression on me. So I decided not to meet her.”
He continued, “I was really upset at that time. I wonder if that was the only thing she could say when we finally met. I was expecting her to ask, ‘Is the kid okay?’ or ‘Does he want to meet me?’ but when I heard ‘Does he make a lot of money?’ I thought it would be better not to meet her, and I felt resentment.”
Meanwhile, ‘Dad and Me’ airs every Tuesday at 10 PM.
