Actress Han Geuru (33) expressed her feelings after completing her daily drama challenge for the first time in 12 years.
The KBS2 daily drama 'Cinderella Game' (written by Oh Sang-hee, directed by Lee Hyun-kyung), which ends on the 25th, tells the story of a woman who is used as a fake daughter by her enemy and becomes a symbol of revenge, realizing the true meaning of revenge as she grows and heals. It gained popularity, recording a peak viewership rating of 12.6%.
In 'Cinderella Game', Han Geuru played the role of Gu Hana, a passionate head of the household full of vitality and responsibility, as well as an international guide and operator for Hyesung Tour. This was her first daily drama in 12 years since MBC's 'Only Today'.
In an interview with Maeil Business Star Today, Han Geuru said, "It was a good experience," adding, "After finishing the last shoot last week, I feel a bit dazed. Seven months flew by. It's strange that there’s no script to memorize for Monday's set recording. I'm happy that we finished safely without any accidents, and I'm glad the ratings were good. I really want to meet again with the staff, actors, and teachers I worked with."
She continued, "At first, I felt a lot of pressure and worried about whether the ratings would drop because of me. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't a burden. But everyone around me helped a lot. I realized I have a lot of good relationships. Even though the schedule was tough, I thought I would miss this moment since I don't know when I will rest again or when I will work on another project, so it wasn't too hard."
Han Geuru revealed that she wanted to participate in 'Cinderella Game' as soon as she saw the script, saying, "It felt different from the daily dramas I had seen before, so I joined without hesitation."
In the early episodes, Han Geuru showcased her role as an international guide by delivering lines in Chinese, English, and Japanese.
She said, "Chinese and English were easy because I had lived with them since I was young. But I didn't know Japanese, so it was really hard. Sayuri, who I became close with through MBC's 'Real Men', recorded the Japanese lines for me, and I practiced by listening to them. Since it's a foreign language, intonation and pitch are important, so I kept practicing to get it right. She told me I did well, but I realized again how difficult foreign language acting is," expressing her gratitude to Japanese broadcaster Sayuri.
She also mentioned that she wanted to capture the process of Gu Hana transforming into a symbol of revenge after realizing she was used as a fake daughter.
He said, "In the beginning, Hana's character was quite similar to me. I also live my life diligently, so I thought I could just show my true self," but confessed, "I was worried about the moment when Hana realizes she is a fake daughter and turns dark."
She added, "I had never played such a character before, and I was worried if I could express charisma since I have a round face, but the teachers helped me a lot to capture the emotions. I wondered when I would get to play such a character again."
Additionally, she explained, "At first, I felt like I was wearing my mom's clothes and had a strong obsession to be more ruthless, but just because a person decides to have a ruthless mindset doesn't mean their nature changes. I focused on that aspect."
Han Geuru said, "I filmed six days a week. With so many shooting days and a lot of lines, it was tough. It felt like I was training my brain again, but it was a good experience," she joked.
