Cultural critic Kim Gap-soo recently took a direct shot at singer Na Hoon-a, who criticized the political sphere during his retirement concert.

On the 13th, a video titled ‘Angry Kim Gap-soo: “Na Hoon-a is a cunning old man”’ was posted on the YouTube channel ‘Maebul Show’.

On that day, MC Choi Wook said, “Na Hoon-a talked about the insurrection situation at his retirement concert. But the current situation is so serious that it has become controversial,” and added, “Right now, we are in the process of suppressing an insurrection, so why are we hearing such talk when one side is red and the other is blue?”

In response, Kim Gap-soo pointed out, “That is the most despicable thing,” stating, “Rather than a neutral stance, he is siding with one side, but when it becomes difficult for him to take a position, he tries to evade it like that.”

He continued, “Na Hoon-a is 78 years old. So, we need to listen to the voice of a famous person who is a 78-year-old man,” and added, “We should observe this from the perspective of ‘Why do old people of that age act like that?’ This includes the elderly at the Taegukgi rallies, and even if they don’t attend the rallies, the general sentiment of ordinary people in their 70s and 80s living in Korea.”

Kim Gap-soo stated, “From experience, these people know that if martial law is declared, democracy will disappear, and personal rights and freedoms will vanish. However, their biggest perception is, ‘Does liberal democracy feed us?’” He explained, “To them, the modern society that operates under a democratic system is seen as very cumbersome, uncomfortable, and luxurious. Additionally, they believe that ‘the Joseon people must be strongly beaten to listen, and that is how the country developed.’”

He added, “These people think that Korea’s rise from a low-income country to a developed country was successful because strong dictators forcefully controlled the Joseon people,” and concluded, “This perception does not change.”

Earlier, on the 10th, Na Hoon-a made headlines during his performance ‘Last Concert - Thank You!’ held at the KSPO Dome in Olympic Park, Seoul, by stating regarding the recent political situation, “The left is making a fuss saying the right did wrong, but did you do well?”

Regarding this remark, criticism poured in, mainly from the opposition, saying, “If the left did nothing right, does that mean we should just overlook the state of emergency?” and “It is absolutely not the time to dilute the issue with false equivalence and incite social chaos.” However, Na Hoon-a continued his remarks on the 12th during his final performance, saying, “You’re still sitting there nitpicking.”
