A woman, referred to as A, who was misunderstood as the mistress of actress Hwang Jung-eum, has withdrawn her defamation lawsuit against Hwang Jung-eum.
On the 15th, a representative from her agency, Y1 Entertainment, stated to Maeil Business Star Today, “A has withdrawn her lawsuit against Hwang Jung-eum,” adding, “There are no longer any legal issues related to this matter.”
Last April, while in the midst of a divorce lawsuit with her ex-husband Lee Young-don, Hwang Jung-eum shared A's account and photo on her SNS, writing, “Hey, you. Please marry Young-don. Can’t you just get divorced and go to Bangkok?”
The account shared by Hwang Jung-eum contained a message saying, “I’m probably the only one who went to Bangkok for one night. But it became an unforgettable trip. XXX, thank you, Lee Young-don. I want to just drop everything and travel without a care.”
As the post quickly spread online, A posted a rebuttal. She expressed her disbelief, stating, “I am not the mistress that Hwang Jung-eum targeted. I don’t even know what Lee Young-don does, and he probably doesn’t know I exist.”
It turned out that A's friend B had the nickname 'Lee Young-don,' and Hwang Jung-eum had mistakenly assumed A was the mistress just by seeing the name.
Hwang Jung-eum acknowledged her mistake in wrongly identifying an innocent person as a mistress and posted two apologies. However, A filed a defamation lawsuit against Hwang Jung-eum in June of the same year. Recently, A expressed her intention to withdraw the lawsuit, bringing an end to the legal conflict between the two parties.
Meanwhile, Hwang Jung-eum is currently undergoing divorce mediation with businessman Lee Young-don, a former professional golfer. The couple, who married in 2016, faced a crisis in 2020 with a divorce mediation but reconciled. However, they faced another separation three years after their reconciliation.
