The occult film 'The Black Nuns', starring Song Hye-kyo and Jeon Yeo-bin, has topped the pre-sale rankings.
Set to be released on the 24th, 'The Black Nuns' recorded a 18.9% pre-sale rate as of 4 PM on the 15th, ranking first in the integrated ticketing system. As it meets audiences during the golden Lunar New Year holiday, there is interest in whether it will take the box office by storm.
'The Black Nuns' marks Song Hye-kyo's return to the big screen after 10 years since 'My Life's on Fire' (2014). The film tells the story of people who embark on a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by a powerful evil spirit, and it is a sequel to director Jang Jae-hyun's first occult film 'The Priests' (2015). The film is directed by Kwon Hyuk-jae, who also directed 'Count' and 'The Solver'.
Song Hye-kyo plays the fearless nun Unia, who will stop at nothing to save the possessed boy.
There is growing interest in whether this film will become the next occult hit following last year's box office sensation 'The Cursed Burial'. It will be available in various special formats in theaters, including Dolby Atmos, 4DX, and SCREENX.
Compared to her unbeatable success in TV dramas, Song Hye-kyo has not performed well on the big screen, and she has been actively promoting 'The Black Nuns' by appearing on various entertainment programs ahead of its release.
She not only appeared on the entertainment talk show 'You Quiz on the Block' for the first time in 23 years but also showcased her candid personality on her close friend Davichi's Kang Min-kyung's YouTube show 'Kyang Min-kyung' and singer Jung Jae-hyung's YouTube channel 'Fairy Jae-hyung'.
