The drama ‘Wongyeong’ has sparked controversy over the use of stunt doubles for exposure scenes.

Since its premiere on the 6th, the tvN-Tving drama ‘Wongyeong’ has drawn attention for the exposure and intimate scenes involving lead actors Cha Joo-young and Lee Yi-dam from the first and second episodes. These scenes were edited out for the tvN broadcast to comply with a 15+ rating. However, on the OTT platform Tving, the viewing rating was raised to ‘Not suitable for minors’, allowing the scenes to air unedited. This indicates that the exposure scenes were not essential to the narrative flow.

Amidst this, rumors have emerged that the exposure scenes were filmed with a stunt double rather than the original actors, intensifying the controversy.

According to a report by Munhwa Ilbo on the 16th, the production team of ‘Wongyeong’ emphasized the necessity of the scenes by increasing the level of exposure during the storyboard stage. Ultimately, Cha Joo-young and Lee Yi-dam filmed the scenes while fully clothed, which were later edited with CG to include footage of a completely exposed stunt double.

Afterward, the two actors requested the production team to edit the scenes, but their requests were not accepted. This has led some to criticize that the two actors were used for ‘19+ noise marketing’.

As the controversy continued, director Kim Sang-ho stated through a media outlet, “It wasn’t so much that we filmed the exposure scenes with directorial intent, but rather there was a demand from the channel,” keeping his comments brief.

In relation to this, the drama's team stated that they are currently looking into the matter.

‘Wongyeong’ (written by Lee Young-mi, directed by Kim Sang-ho) tells the story of Queen Wongyeong (played by Cha Joo-young) and her husband, King Taejong Lee Bang-won (played by Lee Hyun-wook), as they seize power.
