When is the best moment in ‘The Tale of Ok-ssi’?
From JTBC's weekend drama ‘The Tale of Ok-ssi’, Lim Ji-yeon (playing Ok Tae-young) and Choo Young-woo (playing Cheon Seung-hwi), along with director Jin Hyuk and writer Park Ji-sook, shared their favorite scenes and lines from the show.
Lim Ji-yeon, who proves her irreplaceable presence by depicting the dynamic ups and downs of life from the perspective of the slave Gu-deok to the lady Ok Tae-young, chose the scene in the first episode where Gu-deok and her father, Gae-juk, are escaping. “The memory of struggling on a cold winter day while trudging through the snow was so strong that I was really looking forward to the imagery and emotions of that scene, and I think it turned out even better than I expected,” she said.
On the other hand, Choo Young-woo, who stirred the hearts of many with his deep unrequited love for Ok Tae-young, selected the line “It’s a perfect ending” from Cheon Seung-hwi in episode 6. “For Seung-hwi, a perfect ending was not the happiness visible before his eyes, but the smiling face of the person he loves, which is heartbreaking and, above all, very much in line with Seung-hwi’s character, making it memorable,” he expressed his special connection to the character.
Director Jin Hyuk mentioned a precious line from writer Park Ji-sook in episode 7, where Ok Tae-young says to Cheon Seung-hwi, “I wanted to see you looking this happy.” “I thought this line beautifully illustrated the emotions of love and sacrifice. So, I remember asking Lim Ji-yeon to particularly emphasize that line with feeling,” he explained.
Writer Park Ji-sook recalled the line from the first episode where Ok Tae-young, looking down at a performance from a hill on the day she first met Cheon Seung-hwi, says, “Life is hard, so while watching this, I can forget my worries for a moment.” “It’s a line from Gu-deok that gives enlightenment to the artist Seung-hwi. It’s about bringing joy to those who work hard every day and helping them forget their worries, even if just for a moment. It’s a reason why a writer writes a drama, so it’s a line I really like,” she added.
‘The Tale of Ok-ssi’ has moved viewers with scenes and lines that capture not only insights about life through the story of a woman who rises from a slave to a noble but also an incredibly poignant romance. As the crisis facing Lim Ji-yeon and Choo Young-woo reaches its peak, attention is focused on the ending.
