A new glorious TOP7 has been born to write a new history in 'Mr. Trot 3'.
According to Nielsen Korea, a ratings research company, the 11th episode of TV CHOSUN's 'Mr. Trot 3', aired on March 6, recorded a nationwide rating of 16.1%, breaking its own record.
On this day, the second round of the semifinals, the last hurdle leading to the finals, was held. The mission for the second round of the semifinals was the 'Authentic Trot Battle', a first-time attempt in the history of the seasons, where the fate of the 10 trot singers was determined through a single authentic trot performance.
The first place in the second round of the semifinals was Son Bin-a, who scored a total of 1752 points. Son Bin-a delivered a powerful rendition of the late Bae Ho's 'The Last Leaf' with a rich low voice, sending chills down the spine from the very first note. Recognized as the best performer of the season by the participants, Son Bin-a showcased perfect vocal skills with two key changes. Master Lee Kyung-kyu, known as a fan of Bae Ho, expressed his emotional evaluation, saying, "It feels like Bae Ho has been reincarnated. I almost cried." Son Bin-a recorded an astonishing master score of 1489 points and expressed her excitement, saying it feels like she is dreaming a dream she doesn't want to break.
Choi Jae-myung, Kim Yong-bin, and Cheon Rok-dam ranked 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, respectively. Choi Jae-myung chose Seol Woon-do's 'I Only Loved You' and captivated the hearts of women with his romantic voice and performance. His impressive transformation, hiding traditional Korean singing techniques, received positive reviews. Choi Jae-myung, who ranked 4th in master scores, secured a spot in the TOP7 with a national representative score of 277 points.
Next, the 22-year veteran Kim Yong-bin showcased his knowledge as an authentic trot expert with the song 'Living in a Foreign Land' by Go Bok-soo, released in the 1930s. Although the song, over 90 years old, had a repetitive rhythm that continued for four verses, Kim Yong-bin's unique control of dynamics made the performance pass by without a dull moment.
Cheon Rok-dam, who had previously faced a setback in authentic trot, climbed the high mountain of authenticity with a heartfelt performance. Cheon Rok-dam passionately sang Kim Yong-im's 'Life Like a Floating Water Plant' with solid vocal skills and an upgraded vocal technique. Although Kim Yong-bin and Cheon Rok-dam received the same master score of 1461 points, Kim Yong-bin edged ahead by 1 point in the audience score, resulting in a split in ranking.
Chun Gil, who had tied for 2nd place with Kim Yong-bin in the first round of the semifinals, saw a significant drop in ranking due to a shocking mistake, finishing in a tie for 6th place with Choo Hyuk-jin, barely qualifying for the TOP7.
Thus, the final TOP7 of 'Mr. Trot 3' has been confirmed: Son Bin-a, Choi Jae-myung, Kim Yong-bin, Cheon Rok-dam, Nam Seung-min, Choo Hyuk-jin, and Chun Gil.
