Singer Kim Ho-joong, who was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison for 'drunk hit-and-run' charges, conveyed his current situation to fans through a letter from prison.
On the 10th, Hankyung.com obtained and published Kim Ho-joong's handwritten letter. The letter contains regrets and self-blame about the past, as well as heartfelt longing and gratitude towards his fans.
In the letter, Kim Ho-joong reflected, saying, “I sincerely thank you for sending your longing. I am currently reflecting on my past self,” and added, “I created a shield of familiarity and took the past days for granted… Now that I take a step back and look at the world, I realize how beautiful the world I lived in was. I lived without becoming Kim Ho-joong.”
He continued, “I found myself writing this today because of my fans. The world tells me that I have lost everything, but I want to confidently say that I have gained much more.”
He also stated, “We cannot live forever. Knowing that there will surely be a farewell someday makes me able to be faithful to my life now,” and added, “I will not let it pass by anymore. I will miss more today, be more grateful today, and love more today.”
He concluded with, “To my beloved family. I miss you so much and long for you. I hope you stay healthy and wait until the day I can greet you again.”
It has been reported that Kim Ho-joong submitted 100 letters of reflection asking for leniency over the past month. The letters reportedly contain appeals for leniency.
Kim Ho-joong was indicted on charges of dangerous driving resulting in injury, fleeing the scene, and aiding a criminal under the Specific Crimes Aggravated Punishment Act, and was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison in the first trial last November.
Kim Ho-joong's side filed an appeal immediately after the first trial's verdict. The first hearing of the appeal was held on the 12th of last month, and the second hearing is scheduled for the 19th of this month.
