Singer Whisung (43) has suddenly passed away.
On the 10th, Whisung's agency, Tajo Entertainment, released an official statement saying, "We are deeply sorry to convey such heartbreaking and tragic news," and added, "On March 10th, our artist Whisung has left us. He was found in a state of cardiac arrest at his home in Seoul and was pronounced dead."
They continued, "All of us at Tajo Entertainment, including his family and fellow artists, are mourning the loss with heavy hearts. It pains us to share this unfortunate news with the fans who have given Whisung their unwavering support and love. We ask that you pray for his peace and comfort in his rest."
According to a report by the JoongAng Ilbo, Whisung was found dead at his home at 6:29 PM that day. The police and fire authorities were dispatched after receiving a report from his family, and it is believed that he was discovered a considerable time after his death.
The specific cause of death is under investigation, and authorities are also considering the possibility of drug overdose or suicide. The police stated, "So far, there are no signs of external intrusion or criminal activity," and "the existence of a suicide note and the specific circumstances of his death are under investigation."
Whisung debuted in 2002 with "Is It Not Possible..." and gained immense popularity with numerous hit songs such as "With Me," "The Day We Met Again," "Incurable Disease," "In a Year," "A Heart-Wrenching Story," "I Even Thought About Marriage," "Love is Delicious♡," and "Insomnia."
In 2019, Whisung was indicted for purchasing propofol 12 times and administering it at hotels and other locations over 10 occasions, receiving a sentence of 1 year in prison and 2 years of probation. After a period of reflection, he recently announced his return to activities. In February, he met with fans during a birthday fan meeting and was scheduled to hold a joint concert "The Story" with singer KCM at the Daegu EXCO Auditorium on the 15th.
