Producer and broadcaster Don Spike (real name Kim Min-soo), who was imprisoned on drug charges, has recently been reported to have been released.
According to Star News on the 17th, Don Spike completed his two-year sentence earlier this month and is said to be involved in managing a restaurant in Yongsan, Seoul.
Previously, Don Spike was arrested in September 2022 as a suspect in a drug case at a hotel in Gangnam, Seoul.
He is accused of purchasing approximately 45 million won worth of methamphetamine in nine instances and using methamphetamine a total of 14 times, including five instances of joint use. He is also charged with distributing methamphetamine and ecstasy seven times and possessing about 20 grams of methamphetamine. The 20 grams of methamphetamine is equivalent to about 667 doses based on the standard single-use amount of 0.03 grams.
In January, the first-instance court sentenced Don Spike to three years in prison with a five-year probation, 120 hours of community service, 80 hours of drug treatment lectures, and a confiscation order of approximately 39.85 million won, but the prosecution appealed on the grounds of inappropriate sentencing.
In the subsequent appeal, the court sentenced him to two years in prison, which led to his immediate incarceration, but Don Spike's side submitted a petition for appeal, which was dismissed.
