The group New Jeans (NJZ), which has had its activities halted due to a court's provisional ruling, spoke out about the court's decision in an interview with Time magazine in the United States.
On the 22nd (local time), the members of New Jeans expressed their disappointment regarding the court ruling through the American weekly magazine Time.
They stated, “We do not expect the issues in the K-pop industry to change overnight,” adding, “Compared to what we have experienced so far, this is just another stage in our journey.”
New Jeans also mentioned, “Perhaps this is the current reality in Korea. This is why we believe we need change and growth,” and added, “It seems that Korea wants to make us revolutionaries.”
On the other hand, their agency Ador emphasized, “The misunderstanding can be completely resolved when the members return to the label,” stating, “Ador's goal is not to hinder the artists' careers, but to allow them to continue their activities according to the existing contracts.”
Previously, the 50th Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Kim Sang-hoon) accepted Ador's request for a provisional injunction against the five members of New Jeans regarding ‘the preservation of agency status and prohibition of advertising contract signing’ and made a ruling in favor of it.
The members of New Jeans began their independent activities after their contract was terminated due to a breach of contract by Ador last November. Additionally, the members sought new activities under the new team name ‘NJZ’.
In response, Ador filed a provisional injunction in January against the members of New Jeans, requesting to “prevent them from independently signing advertising contracts.”
