Actor Lee Byung-hun shared behind-the-scenes stories about his appearance on ‘SNL’.
On the 24th, Lee Byung-hun appeared on the YouTube channel ‘Jjanhan Hyung Shin Dong-yup’ in the episode ‘Jjanhan Hyung’ as the lead of the movie ‘Victory’.
On that day, Lee Byung-hun said, “Shin Dong-yup is not originally that kind of friend, but one day he suddenly asked me, ‘Can I go home?’ So I went, and he pulled out one expensive wine after another that was really hard to find. I felt like he came to ask for something. Sure enough, he was trying to recruit me for ‘SNL’ when it started,” he opened up.
Lee Byung-hun, who enjoyed watching ‘SNL’, said, “Since it’s like a live broadcast, you have to do a lot all at once, so I begged not to go because I was too nervous. I really wanted to help, but I said I couldn’t do live broadcasts because of my motion sickness.” He continued, “I’m usually someone who goes to bed by 11, but Shin Dong-yup said he wouldn’t go home until I said ‘yes’ until 3 AM. I also held out until the end. In the end, I sent Shin Dong-yup off to his car.”
Lee Byung-hun recounted, “The next day, someone rang the bell. It was Shin Dong-yup. So we drank again until 2 AM. Even until that day, I thought I was right not to say ‘yes’. The moment Shin Dong-yup rang the bell again the next day, I thought to myself, ‘It’s going to happen’ even before he came in. After drinking until dawn on the third day, I ended up going on ‘SNL’.”
Shin Dong-yup explained, “It was because he was nervous, but Lee Byung-hun had a desire to appear. And at that time, it was the first episode of season 1 of ‘SNL’ starting on Coupang Play. I usually don’t act that way, but it was a very important moment.” To this, Lee Byung-hun joked, “That’s why they say he became a chaebol.”
