The default judgment against colleague weathercaster A, who was identified as the perpetrator of workplace bullying against the late MBC weathercaster Oh Yoanna, has been canceled. A hearing is expected to be held soon.
On the 27th, the 48th Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Kim Do-kyun) canceled the hearing date for the damages lawsuit related to workplace bullying filed by the deceased's family. A default judgment was scheduled to be issued that day as A had not submitted any opinion since the lawsuit was filed.
However, on the 25th, two days before the ruling, A appointed a legal representative and submitted a power of attorney along with a preparatory document, leading to the cancellation of the default judgment. As A has shown a willingness to participate in the proceedings, a hearing date is expected to be set soon.
The news of the death of the late Oh Yoanna, who passed away in September last year, was belatedly reported in December. Subsequently, in January, a 17-page will was discovered on the deceased's mobile phone, raising suspicions that she was a victim of workplace bullying.
The will contained details about workplace bullying inflicted on the deceased by senior weathercasters, and it is reported that numerous pieces of evidence related to workplace bullying were found in messages and voice recordings on the deceased's mobile phone.
In response to the allegations, MBC organized a fact-finding committee and began an investigation, while the Mapo Police Station in Seoul accepted related complaints and started verifying the facts. Additionally, the Seoul Regional Labor Office and the Seoul Western District Office formed a special labor inspection team to conduct a special labor inspection against MBC.
