She is an amazing woman with a thousand faces. Actress Yeom Hye-ran has made every Aesoon in the world cry in ‘I Was Completely Deceived’.

The Netflix series ‘I Was Completely Deceived’ tells the adventurous life of Aesoon (played by IU), a ‘mischievous rebel’ born in Jeju, and Gwan-sik (played by Park Bo-gum), a ‘foolish iron man’, through the four seasons. Since its first release, it has received positive reactions from viewers, with many saying, “I can’t stop crying.”

At the center of this praise is Yeom Hye-ran, who has been touching viewers' hearts since the first episode. Yeom Hye-ran plays the role of Aesoon's mother, Jeon Gwang-rye, enhancing the immersion of the story.

After sending her first husband away, Gwang-rye's life, who remarried leaving her daughter Aesoon behind, was not easy. With a second husband who is like a drifter, Gwang-rye bears the responsibility of making a living, spending her days diving for abalone and carrying heavy loads of wood. Aesoon, whom she had to leave behind at her in-laws, is always on her mind. She is a mother who would do anything for her daughter Aesoon, who wants to come over the mountain to find her, buy abalone to support her mother’s daily life, and share the burden of carrying loads. What about the moment she realizes she will die leaving such a daughter behind? The poignancy and affection of that moment, the life and face of a mother from that era, shone brightly through Yeom Hye-ran.

The hard life of a haenyeo (female diver) and the life of a mother who gives everything to her daughter came vividly to life thanks to Yeom Hye-ran's face and gaze. Although her screen time is not extensive, every time she appears, she manages to draw tears from the audience with her ‘crying button’ performance, showcasing her mature acting skills. With just a single line or a deep gaze, she conveys Gwang-rye's emotions profoundly.

Yeom Hye-ran, who has shown a new face in every work, including the dramas ‘Dear My Friends’, ‘Goblin’, ‘When the Camellia Blooms’, ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’, and the films ‘I Can Speak’, ‘Witness’, ‘The Day the Country Went Bankrupt’, and ‘Girl Cops’, has once again perfectly transformed into her character in this work. She has proven her presence as a ‘trustworthy actor’ by becoming Gwang-rye herself, making it hard to think of anyone else.

Gwang-rye was at the beginning of ‘I Was Completely Deceived’, and we look forward to seeing what new face Yeom Hye-ran, the woman with a thousand faces who made every Aesoon in the world cry, will show in her next work.
