Singer and actress IU mentioned her upcoming project, the MBC drama 'The 21st Century Great Lady.'
The Netflix series 'You Are So Dead' tells the story of a rebellious girl named Aesoon, born in Jeju, and her life filled with adventures alongside the clumsy and foolish Gwan-sik, unfolding through the four seasons. It vividly portrays their pure teenage years, their unpredictable youth, and the tumultuous middle age as they face the challenges life throws at them, despite having grown up together in Jeju but being completely different in every aspect.
The project is a collaboration between writer Im Sang-chun of 'When the Camellia Blooms' and director Kim Won-seok of 'Misaeng.' IU plays young Aesoon, while Moon So-ri portrays adult Aesoon. Park Bo-gum plays young Gwan-sik, and Park Hae-joon takes on the role of adult Gwan-sik. IU also plays the role of Aesoon's daughter, Geum-myeong, effectively taking on two roles.
Within just one day of its release, it topped the Netflix 'Top 10 Series in South Korea' ranking. Even after the release of the fourth episode, it maintained its number one position, receiving positive reviews from viewers.
Regarding the earlier rumors of her leaving 'The 21st Century Great Lady,' IU said, "I was very surprised. I met with the director yesterday to discuss things, and then the rumors came out." She added, "Sometimes there is smoke without fire, but the wording in the article was so confident that I thought, 'Did I get dropped from the project?'"
She continued, "I think it was a misunderstanding. Byun Woo-seok also seems not to be leaving. We talked about doing well together. I think we can do well. I met with the director yesterday and discussed it. Byun Woo-seok is aware of that too."
On her upcoming project, she said, "It would be a lie to say I don't feel excitement and pressure. There is pressure, and Aesoon is a completely different character from Geum-myeong, so I feel a bit nervous." She added, "'You Are So Dead' is in its final promotional schedule, so right now, 70-80% of me is Aesoon. After today, I want to become Hee-joo. I want to keep being Aesoon just until today," she joked.
'The 21st Century Great Lady,' featuring IU and Byun Woo-seok, depicts a romance that breaks class barriers between a woman who is a wealthy heiress in a constitutional monarchy in the 21st century but is merely a commoner, and a sad man who is the son of a king but can possess nothing.
IU plays the role of Seong Hee-joo, the second daughter of the number one conglomerate, born with a silver spoon, possessing stunning beauty, intelligence, and a fierce competitive spirit.
