Actress Heo Yoon-jung confessed that she underwent esophageal cancer surgery five years ago.
In an appearance on MBN's 'Im Seong-hoon's Star Gene X-Files' aired on the 26th, Heo Yoon-jung said, “I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2020 and had surgery. When I first learned that I had esophageal cancer, it felt like the sky was falling down,” recalling the shock of that time.
She continued, “I didn’t have significant symptoms. I felt like food was getting stuck on the right side while swallowing. So, I went to the hospital, and they told me it was esophageal cancer. They said the time for endoscopic surgery had passed.”
Ultimately, Heo Yoon-jung underwent esophagectomy, explaining, “I often saw my father suffering from chemotherapy,” and added, “They cut out about 24cm. They pulled up the stomach and attached it in place of the esophagus.”
In response, Lee Kwang-ki expressed concern, saying, “It’s not easy to remove organs from the body,” and Heo Yoon-jung shared, “Not having an esophagus means there’s no sphincter,” explaining, “At first, when I drank water and bent over, everything would reflux. I couldn’t eat and only vomited. I was losing about 200g every day, so I lost about 15kg in a month.”
Heo Yoon-jung mentioned her current healthy state, saying, “I am continuously being monitored and tested, and they have been telling me that everything looks very good so far. I am about six months away from being declared cancer-free,” and smiled brightly.
