The theater industry, which had been sluggish at the beginning of the new year, is starting to stretch again. With the temporary holiday designated on the 27th, the Lunar New Year holiday has been extended to a whopping 6 days, raising expectations for the peak season.

In January, a diverse lineup is forming in theaters for the first time in a long while. From Kwon Sang-woo's starring film 'Hitman 2' to Song Hye-kyo's 'The Black Nun', and Do Kyung-soo's fantasy melodrama 'Secret That Cannot Be Told'.

First up is 'Hitman 2', which will be released on the 22nd, featuring Kwon Sang-woo alongside comedy masters Jung Joon-ho, Lee I-kyung, and Hwang Woo-seul-hye in a human comedy action film. The story revolves around 'Jun' (played by Kwon Sang-woo), a once-great hit writer who suddenly falls from grace and becomes embroiled in a terror incident mimicking his ambitious new webtoon, leading to him being falsely accused overnight.

The previous installment provided comfortable and addictive laughter, along with exceptional teamwork, raising expectations for 'the younger brother who surpasses the older brother'.

On the 27th, the sequel to 'The Priests', and Song Hye-kyo's first foray into the occult genre, 'The Black Nun', will be released. This mystery occult drama tells the story of people who engage in forbidden rituals to save a boy possessed by a powerful evil spirit. The combination of actors like Song Hye-kyo, Jeon Yeo-bin, and Han Dong-hee, who are expected to showcase new transformations, along with fresh material and unpredictable developments, is garnering high interest from prospective audiences.

The very next day, on the 28th, Do Kyung-soo and Won Jin-ah's beautiful fantasy melodrama 'Secret That Cannot Be Told' will be released, wrapping up January with lyrical sweetness. Based on the legendary fantasy romance of the same name, the film depicts a miraculous magical moment that begins when Yu-jun and Jeong-ah accidentally meet in a campus practice room where the secret of time is hidden.

In addition, there are the late Song Jae-rim's final work 'Crash' (released on January 15) and the late Kim Soo-mi's final work 'Ghost Police' (released on January 24). The animated blockbuster 'The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim' will also be released on January 25.

With various genres of new Korean films such as horror, comedy, and romance being released, along with the momentum of blockbuster foreign animations and existing works, it seems that the holiday season will enjoy a special boost after a long time.
