Actor Song Joong-ki shed tears over the poor box office performance of the film ‘Bogotá: The Land of Last Chances,’ in which he stars.
On the 12th, at the Mega Talk for the film ‘Bogotá: The Land of Last Chances’ held at the Megabox Seongsu in Seoul, actors Song Joong-ki and Lee Hee-joon attended. Actor Lee Sung-min, who has a connection with Song Joong-ki through the JTBC drama ‘The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate,’ was also present.
On that day, Lee Sung-min said, “It broke my heart to see the parking lot completely empty. It seems like there are no people in the theater,” adding, “There may be various reasons, but it’s really tough for actors when there are no audiences in the theater. When a movie is released during such times, I really want to die. But it’s the actor’s job to endure it. Anyway, I hope everyone can support and help the movie do well until the end.”
Lee Hee-joon remarked, “Although the performance of ‘Bogotá’ is lower than our expectations, I feel it’s precious to greet each and every person who came today. It’s a valuable film that was released after overcoming the direct hit of COVID-19. Thank you for your continued interest, for watching, and for coming to the GV.”
Song Joong-ki shared, “These days, the situation for Korean films is very difficult. Honestly, I’m grateful that the film is even being shown in theaters. Because it’s hard for Korean films to be screened these days, I’ve been promoting it harder than ever. I wanted to let people know and to present it beautifully.”
He continued, “Even if I get criticized, I tried my best to make this situation better, even though I’m lacking. Still, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who came to see our movie,” adding, “You mentioned that the reality of the film industry is tough, but the role of actors is to create good content to comfort and entertain the audience, so I will strive to create good works to be a source of strength.”
Song Joong-ki said, “As I talk, I keep getting emotional,” and showed tears, saying, “I’m really grateful.”
‘Bogotá’ depicts the story of Guk-hee (played by Song Joong-ki), who goes to Bogotá, Colombia, filled with hope right after the IMF crisis, and becomes entangled with influential figures in the Korean community in Bogotá, such as Su-young (Lee Hee-joon) and smuggling market bigwig Park Byeong-jang (Kwon Hae-hyo). It is reported that ‘Bogotá’ had a production cost of 12.5 billion won, with a break-even point of 3 million viewers, but as of now, the cumulative audience number has only reached 400,000.
