The group NewJeans' 'Super Shy' has surpassed 700 million streams on Spotify.
According to Spotify, the world's largest music streaming platform, as of the 29th, 'Super Shy', one of the triple title tracks from NewJeans' second EP 'Get Up', has been played a cumulative total of 700,238,819 times. It is NewJeans' third song to reach 700 million streams on Spotify, following 'OMG' and 'Ditto'.
Released in July 2023, 'Super Shy' is characterized by its jersey club rhythm and bouncy sound based on an exciting beat. 'Super Shy' stayed on the US Billboard main song chart 'Hot 100' and the UK Official Singles Chart 'Top 100' for 8 and 9 weeks respectively, peaking at 48th and 52nd. It also ranked 2nd on both the Billboard 'Global 200' and 'Global (excluding the US)', and entered the top 10 of Spotify Global and the US 'Daily Top Songs', setting new record highs for NewJeans on various charts.
Thanks to this global popularity, 'Super Shy' was the only K-pop song selected by Pitchfork, an American music magazine, in its list of 'The 100 Best Songs of the 2020s' published last September. Pitchfork praised 'Super Shy' as "NewJeans' most effortless masterpiece," noting that it boasts a catchy hook without being overly flashy.
To date, NewJeans has released a total of 14 songs with over 100 million streams on Spotify.
NewJeans is currently in a dispute with their agency Adore over the termination of their exclusive contract. They are involved in legal disputes related to this matter, and recently, the court ruled in favor of Adore regarding a provisional injunction filed by the agency. As a result, NewJeans has halted their activities.
Nevertheless, it seems that their songs continue to be heard by many, maintaining their unwavering popularity.
