CJ ENM is launching a new version of 'Unpretty Rapstar'.
On the afternoon of the 15th, a media lounge event was held at The Class Cheongdam located in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. At the event, Shin Hyung-kwan, Head of Music Content Business Division at CJ ENM, and Kim Ji-won, Head of Mnet Plus, presented and shared CJ ENM's global music business strategy and the vision of Mnet Plus.
Shin Hyung-kwan announced that the joint Japan-Korea hip-hop project 'Unpretty Rapstar: Hip Pop Princess', produced in collaboration with the production teams of 'Unpretty Rapstar' and 'Street Woman Fighter', is being prepared with the goal of airing in the second half of the year.
He stated, "It has already been 10 years since we launched 'Unpretty Rapstar'," and added, "This year, we plan to present it to viewers in a new format."
He continued, "While hip-hop and rap genres are not as popular in Japan as they are in our country, I believe they have tremendous potential," and added, "The production teams of 'Unpretty Rapstar' and 'Street Woman Fighter' are preparing a Japan-Korea joint hip-hop project to create a rapper version of IZ*ONE."
Meanwhile, CJ ENM is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Mnet this year and plans to strengthen its competitiveness by focusing on three core pillars of its music business: global multi-labels, global production studios, and global platforms. In particular, they are determined to expand their presence in the global music market through the establishment of new global labels, expansion of global target content, and the launch of new services from Mnet Plus within the year.
